France Trip Day 12

By Thursday many of the people that I have met are packing their bags and heading to Berlinale. Unfortunately, we didn’t make it to Berlin but it’s nice knowing that some of the quality short films in competition with us did. Some of these filmmakers have been festival hopping from Rotterdam to Clermont-Ferrand on their way to Berlinale and so it’s quite exciting to hear about their stories as they move from one to the next. The downside for me though is that working hard to find people to talk to, they all disappear with days left of the festival. It could be a good thing though, providing an opportunity to meet more people then over next couple days. We were lucky enough to make contact with another Australian who made a really good film here at the festival. Moments earlier, we also met another Australian living here in Clermont Ferrand. There is almost no logic to the way I am meeting people here, and it is simply a case of being in the right place at the right time. We only checked out one session of film today but it was a really solid block. We’re both exhausted from so much film watching that we will only probably see another 1 or 2 blocks by the time the festival closes. Tomorrow is the last main day of screenings, and the main screening of Burley! It will be the largest screening of Burley! to date – 1400 people in total watching, so hopefully it will get a good response. Over and out.
