France Trip Day 1 - Part B
We touched down into Paris at about 5 AM this morning and the first thought that crossed our mind was that IT’S FREEZING. A blast of cold air greeted us as we got off the plane… Bonjour!
Aside from the fact that everyone was speaking French, it didn’t actually feel like we were in another country until we exited the Metro station in the Latin Quarter. Whereas previously everything felt like just another airport / train station, the famous Parisian architecture was instantly around us… with a slight twist. It was so early in the morning that the streets were completely empty. It was like a ghost town. I’ve been to Paris many times before this and haven’t actually seen it this quiet before. They obviously have some sense though because it was very cold.
After a short walk we found our hotel. It was warm inside but we were told we couldn’t check in until 1 PM. I figured as much. We were allowed to leave our bags at the hotel though, so we did, and set off to do Paris on foot. Back out into the cold.
It was still night but the sun was just beginning to peek its head up at the base of the Seine. Erin was gradually turning a lovely shade of blue but we walked from Notredame, all the way down the Champs Élysée. It was quite magical seeing Paris come alive. We stopped for a couple of $15 dollar coffees along the way which certainly helped to warm us up and an omelette, which was probably the best I’ve had.
By the time 1 PM came about, the weather was almost tolerable, the streets were flooded with people and our feet were blistering. We checked into our hotel and put our feet up. I’ll have to have a bit of bit of rest before doing anything more today.

Le Jealous, mate, very Le Jealous. Fantastic blog entrees, I can feel the cold just reading them. Well, whilst you’re burning you hard earned cash on crazy coffees, you’ll be jealous to know that over the Australia Day weekend I successfully severed my mains water supply to our house and our telephone line. Most rad. I’m looking forward to the updates (Cherie says hello to you and Erin).
I’m guessing Erin’s going to go nuts with the camera? Can’t wait to see the photos.
Ooroo
